Racing Hondas takes over Silverstone with three S2000Rs Cup builds

Three purpose-built Honda Racing cars hitting the tarmac at Silverstone is already a big deal. But when they do it rolling on Motegi wheels, it really gets our attention. This spring we added another chapter to the long line of grassroots motorsports moments and drivers that rock Motegi wheels and throwdown in style.

Last April, the Racing Hondas Championship witnessed a major milestone: the official track debut of the first three Honda S2000R Cup builds. Wrapped in legendary liveries and Motegi M162 Zentoku wheels, these S2ks were built to battle well-proven Civic EP3s, and they lived up to their build sheets. New to Racing Hondas? Check out our Tegiwa S2000R feature here.

Iconic Looks, Proven Performance

Luke Sedzikowski piloted the striking Advan-liveried car, Phil Wright took the wheel of a bold yellow machine, and Guy Martin brought the iconic Takata Dome colors to the famed Honda roadster.

Beneath the flawless bodywork, all three cars relied on Motegi MR162 Zentoku wheels to transfer that high-revving VTEC power to the pavement. For Motegi, supporting the S2000R Cup grid is a natural extension of our motorsports roots. Whether it’s high-profile professional paddocks or weekend club racing, the mission remains the same: delivering lightweight, track-proven reliability to drivers who push their equipment to the absolute limit.

The Motegi MR162 Zentoku blends modern and golden-era Honda tuning style with a split five-spoke design that nods to heritage while embracing the future. Constructed using Flow Formed Technology, the Zentoku delivers lightweight performance, reduced unsprung weight, and the durability demanded by both street and track. Available in fitments for the S2000, NSX, RSX, Civic Type R, and Integra Type S, as well as other Japanese and Korean performance icons, it offers style that spans generations.

Domination and Resilience in Class B

In Race 1, Phil Wright put on a masterclass, securing an impressive Class B victory. Guy Martin brought the Takata car home with a solid 6th-place finish. Luke Sedzikowski’s Advan car suffered a minor setback when a loose ball joint forced a DNF while running in a strong position, but the team quickly remedied the issue for the next round.

Race 2 saw Wright continue his dominant form, capturing a second Class B win. Sedzikowski showed serious resilience, slicing through the pack from the back of the grid to finish a stellar 4th, while Martin crossed the line in 9th.

S2000 vs. Civic: The Ultimate Track Battle

The weekend put to rest any questions about how the new RWD spec would fare against the established front-wheel-drive Civics. The on-track battles were tight from lights to flag.

"I could brake later, they could carry more speed to the apex, but I could get on the throttle sooner—and we’d both exit at the same speed," Wright noted. "The car turned in mint and filled me with confidence."

Sedzikowski echoed that optimism, looking ahead to the next round at Cadwell Park: "The car feels so comfortable to drive fast. Its corner exits, of which there are plenty at Cadwell, should see the car performing strong once more."

Fueling the Grassroots Grid

With two class wins right out of the gate, the Honda Racing S2000R Cup builds are officially validated. The grid is already growing; three cars are currently competing, two more are mid-build, and several others are slated to join as the season progresses. So, more Honda race cars on Motegi wheels? What else can we ask for?
